Acupuncture

Acupuncture originates under the 'umbrella’ of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is now the most well known and recognised of these treatments and is used, often mistakenly, as a stand-alone treatment. Acupuncture Chinese letters

  • Acupuncture is generally painless and in the vast majority of cases you will not feel the needles being inserted. Rarely, a sensation will be felt and if this is unpleasant simply tell Dr. Hong who will adjust the needle.
  • The standards of hygiene are very high. Our clinic is registered with the local authority and all the normal health precautions are observed as in any other similar type of clinic. All the needles are single use disposable and packaged in sterile packs prior to use.
  • Depending on your condition, acupuncture may be used with other treatments such as acupressure (a type of massage), localised heat, moxibustion, or nerve/muscle stimulation where a tiny electric current is passed through the needle to excite the nerves and muscles.
  • In many cases an improvement will be noticed with in 2-3 treatments. However, the length of treatment will depend on the problem, your age and other medical factors. Many treatments only require 5-10 sessions whereas some can require many more.
  • There are very few reported side effects to acupuncture. Some patients can experience a degree of faintness or a light-headed feeling after their initial treatments. This is not unusual and you will be encouraged to rest for a few minutes after treatment to allow the feeling to pass. In some patients, symptoms can increase slightly after one or two treatments; however this is regarded as a positive response and an indicator that the condition will respond to the treatment. In rare cases, it has been know for more serious complications to occur but these are almost always caused by bad practice. Acupuncture is a very safe form of treatment.
  • Acupuncture can treat many conditions. In some cases, it is used for curative effect whereas in others it is more palliative, such as pain control. In China, it is used for far greater effect than in the UK. For example, it is used to control pain in patients undergoing major internal surgical procedures who cannot accept normal anaesthesia.

More Effective Than You Think

Acupuncture is not a magic cure; however when applied by a properly trained and experienced practitioner our experience supports the Chinese experience that it is far more effective than the Western medical establishment would like you to believe.

  • More than 80% of our patients (who come from all walks of life and age groups) are from recommendation and we run a full time clinic. Many come to us with badly compromised quality of life issues and leave greatly relieved and often cured.

The fact that modern science has not understood Chinese Medicine in general and Acupuncture in particular and that the British Medical Association, which is just a Doctors union, appears hell bent on discrediting any treatment it cannot administer via its members is a fundamentally flawed approach.
